Fender Repairs – Lead in Jetty
Client | ABP – Hull and Goole |

Contractor | ATC |
Project | Lead in Jetty |
Location | King George Dock - Hull |
Value | £85,000 |
The Lead in Jetty is at the entrance of King George Dock at the port of Hull – the busiest dock.
These works involved carrying out structural repairs and replacing fendering facing timber. ATC won the competitive tender by producing an alternative method of work for the project.
Traditionally this work would be carried out from cranebarge and marine craft. ATC completed the works from the land using cradles and mobile craneage. The works included steel repairs to the support structure and removal and installation of 300 x 150 x 5m – 500m long Opepe Fendering timbers.
As this is the main entrance to the docks, vessel movements took priority over our works. ATC had only 30 minutes notice and all operations had to be suspended and our equipment removed. The flexibility and ease of moving the cradles allowed us to respond to the clients requirements.
In order to keep efficiency and make the operations economical, detailed planning was required to ensure continuity of work was managed. We had to ensure that sufficient work was available during the down time periods.
