Ocean Lock Fender Refurbishment

Contractor | ATC |
Project | Fender replacement to Ocean Lock |
Location | Goole Docks |
Value | £110,000 |
This project involves working in the operational Ocean Lock which is the main entrance from the River Humber to Goole Docks. Vessels movements must be available at each high tide window. The works therefore must be carefully scheduled to ensure each activity is completed for the next high tide.
ATC won this contract after a competitive tender for removing and replacing the whole of Ocean Lock fendering. The document was tailored by the client to have the option of all or part of the fendering repaired. Due to budgetary constraints the client chose to complete 2 of the 16 sections. In total there is 187.2m of Ekki timber fendering 9m long 400mm deep and 150mm thick.
The works are carried out from floating pontoons and involve removal of the existing fendering, breaking out of the brickwork quay wall, diamond drilling bolt holes and installing threaded bar anchors and the timber fendering.
Phase one was completed in January 08. ABP then awarded Phase II to ATC following straight on after completion of Phase I.
